The African Green Monkey
Chlorocebus sabaeus
African green monkeys are increasingly important in biomedical research, particularly for infectious disease studies.
Natural hosts for SIV without disease progression, they provide unique insights into viral pathogenesis and represent a valuable model for respiratory virus research.
Human Similarity
~93% genetic homology with extensive immune receptor cross-reactivity
Global Availability
Multiple geographic origins with established breeding colonies
Regulatory Accepted
FDA & EMA preferred species for biologics safety assessment
Geographic Origins
Common Research Applications
African Green Monkey CD56+ NK Cells are primary natural killer cells isolated from African green monkey (Chlorocebus sabaeus) peripheral blood. NK cells are innate lymphoid effectors with direct cytotoxic activity against virus-infected and transformed cells.
Common Applications
- Antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) assays
- Cancer immunotherapy target validation
- Innate immune response profiling
- Viral clearance and host defense studies

Typical purity is >80% CD56+/CD16+ NK cells as assessed by flow cytometry. NK cells are enriched by immunomagnetic negative selection to preserve surface receptor integrity. Purity and viability data are included on the Certificate of Analysis.
Many anti-human NK markers cross-react with african green and rhesus monkey NK cells, including CD56, CD16, NKG2D, and NKp46. Cross-reactivity varies by antibody clone. We can provide validated clone recommendations for your species.
Thaw rapidly in a 37°C water bath until a small ice crystal remains. Transfer dropwise into pre-warmed NK cell medium with IL-2. Centrifuge at 300g for 10 minutes, resuspend in fresh medium. Allow overnight resting with low-dose IL-2 (100 U/mL) before cytotoxicity or ADCC assays.
Post-thaw viability is typically ≥70% for cryopreserved NK cells. NK cell function (cytotoxicity, ADCC) recovers optimally after overnight IL-2 stimulation. Fresh cells are shipped with ≥90% viability.
Yes. We support donor reservation and repeat-donor programs. Donor demographics and health records are available. NK cell donor variability in cytotoxicity is normal; we can pre-screen donors for high cytotoxic activity on request.
