About the Cynomolgus Monkey

Macaca fascicularis

The cynomolgus macaque is the most widely used non-human primate in biomedical research, valued for its close physiological and immunological similarity to humans.

With over 60% genetic homology for key immune receptors, cynomolgus monkeys provide highly translatable data for drug development, making them ideal for immunology, infectious disease, and toxicology studies.

GI fluid is collected via endoscopic aspiration under general anesthesia for live collections, or via direct aspiration from specific GI segments at necropsy. Nasogastric intubation can be used for gastric fluid. The method is selected based on the GI region of interest and study design.

Volume depends on the GI region and collection method. Gastric aspirates typically yield 5-20 mL. Small intestinal fluid yields vary (2-10 mL per segment). Fasting status significantly affects volume and composition. Custom collection protocols can be arranged.

GI fluid is evaluated for color, pH, and absence of food contamination (fasting samples preferred for most applications). Protease inhibitors are added on request to preserve protein integrity. Collection region, fasting status, and pH are documented.
